Helpful tips
The bell rings at 8:55 please send your child on time.

If your child is ill or getting over being ill and you desire him/her to stay in for recess, please send a note each day.

Home Reading
I encourage students to read at least 20 minutes a night, five nights a week. Parents and students may take turns reading to each other. Each month I will staple a reading calendar in your student’s Take Home folder. Please color one picture for each 20 minutes read.
Math Flashcards
Please practice math facts up to 20 with your student. We will be working on addition and subtraction fact fluency.  Your students will be tested on Tuesday and Thursday every week  in class for 2 minutes.

Up-to-Date
Please remember to keep me up-to-date on any important
changes in your child’s life. I care about your child and I want to help him or her be successful, both in and out of school.

                                                     Volunteers
If you have any time off during the day and would like to help out in the classroom please let me know. I would LOVE to have your help if you are willing to volunteer!

Technology
In our classroom, we will work a lot with laptops.  The kids will create simple PowerPoint, use websites, and Microsoft word to enhance their learning experience.  Also, the children will have the use of two Nook eReaders to use in class during literacy stations and independent reading time.   Technology is something I love to integrate with any lesson and hope you and your child enjoy this component to our "classroom learning toolbox."

*Oral Reading Fluency*

How do you estimate oral reading fluency?

*To estimate oral reading fluency, the child is to read aloud with expression from an appropriate independent reading level text (90% accuracy or better).  The number of words are recorded (words read correctly in one minute).  Self corrections are included in the word count (when a child reads a word incorrectly and then says it right).

My Class Expectations
1.   Be Respectful to everyone in our class and school.
2.   Be nice to everyone.
3.   Be Responsible.
4.   Have fun!!
These are the rules that our class agreed on and agreed to follow. They all signed the rules poster in our classroom. If students break a rule they will drop a level on the Gold medal behavior chart in the back of the room. They start on gold everyday. Below are listed what each level includes.
Gold
I am working hard doing my best work. I am being on task, listening, and following directions.
Silver
I am not doing my best work. I am going to try to do better and stay on task and listen to directions.
Bronze
I continue to not do my best work. Now I miss recess to think about how to fix my behavior.
Time Out
I did not fix my behavior, now I will go to time out.
If your child ever goes to time out you will be contacted via email, by phone, or with a note sent home.
Please sign and return this sheet if you agree and understand the class rules and consequences of your child’s actions.
Thanks,
Signed:__________________________

Second Grade Homework Folder
Blue Bell View Elementary Mustang Folder
This folder will be sent home every day inside the folder will be a paper that has a space for you to record your child’s reading minutes for each day of the week. I ask that students read at least 20 minutes per day. Also on this paper will be information about what we will be learning that week and updates on what is going on in our class. Their spelling words will be on the paper sent home on the first day of our new topic. This will be every five days. I WOULD LIKE YOUR CHILD’S HOMEWORK FOLDER BROUGHT BACK EVERY DAY. This helps keep communication easy. Thanks for all your help.
Spelling
This year we have a new spelling program. Spelling tests will not always be on Friday.  I will always wend home words on Day 1. The test will always  will be or in the weekly email I will try to let you know the day of the test in advance. Thanks!
